As one of Australia’s unique singer songwriters and true entertainers, Simon Astley sure knows how to make his mark in the music industry.
Simon’s piano driven songs with narrative lyrics may owe a debt to modern ivory tinklers such as Ben Folds, The Whitlams and Elton John, but they are also startlingly original. His melodies are memorable and his lyrics full of personality, showcase Simon's passion towards expressing feelings through his songs.
It has been a busy few years for this Tasmanian raised singer/songwriter who now resides in Melbourne. The end of 2004 saw the release of his powerful 4 track debut EP ‘Shopping Mall’. Shopping Mall became popular in the UK after the single was included on the compilation CD ‘Stay in the Box, Vol 2’ released through the independant record label Matchbox Recordings in London.
Simon released his debut album ‘Sofa So Good’ in 2007 and then saw the release of the music video clip for the powerful melodic single ‘Better Place To Hide’ which was the first single off the album. The second single ‘If I Was There Tonight’ was included on the compilation CD ‘Acoustika ,Vol 10’ released through the independant record label 272 Records in Hollywood USA.
Simon has been playing live gigs constantly over the years and to date he has played at venues such as: The Espy, Manchester Lane, Ruby’s Lounge, The Brunswick Hotel, The Cat and Fiddle Hotel, The Republic Bar, Palookaville, The Barley Corn Hotel, Idgaff Bar, The Empress Hotel, Wesley Anne Hotel, The Govenor of Hindmarsh, The National Hotel, Sol’s Deck Bar, The Stage Door, The Batman Fawkner, The Commercial Hotel and many more…
Simon has his new EP Sunset Avenue now available. A further project later in the year will be recording a CD with producer/singer songwriter Monique Brumby to release in 2010.
